Now finished it's sixth year, our annual event in Big Valley, Alberta has set some records!

Some of the notable points to mention:

  • We had some modules and their owners travel over a thousand kilometers (over 620 miles) to participate.
  • We had well over 500 feet worth of running trackage with over 320 feet on the mainline between the two loops in 2007. Several branchlines provided ample switching opportunities
  • A 108 car Coal Train traversed the mainline in 2006 with only 2 Athearn SD70's pulling the entire train! (the third loco in the consist was dead-in-tow). Take a look at the Video (WMV & Quicktime)! In 2007, we had a 112 car train travel the layout, but no video this time around!
  • We made use of the majority of the hockey rink!
  • 4 groups participated, with lots of operators running trains throughout the weekend.
  • Numerous guests visited the layout, and some ran trains!
  • 54 member-owned modules participated, in addition to the three group-owned yards.

Don't plan anything for August 14-15 2009, unless of course it's to attend Alberta Free-mo 2010!

Must say as a newbie to Free Mo and the newest member of the Chilliwack Free Mo group even though I live on Vancouver Island, I must say you good people of Calgary Free Mo did an absolutely outstanding job of putting together the meet in Big Valley. It was definitely the biggest layout I've ever seen in my entire life. Many thanks to the hard working Calgary Free Mo group for such a great weekend. We're all looking forward to another great time next year.
