Grasston Corner - Owned and built by Simon Apperloo
Type of module: Double Track Main
The module is a vital component if we want to have the layout curve into a U shape within a short amount of space.
The module plays host to a small town that has seen the tracks relocated, severing service to the passenger station (now a museum) and the grain elevator.
Grasston Corner received its inspiring name when I had to come up with a name for track plans. It was a corner and had grass on it at the time!
Grasston Corner has come to represent a number of smaller towns in Southern Alberta that once hosted the railroad. Over the past years the railroads have pulled up track as the grain elevators relocated making the line unnecessary or too expensive. Some towns have made use of the passenger stations left behind, turning them into museums or tourist info centres. Quite often they have been able to secure some sort of train car to locate near the bulding. Also some of the towns have made considerable effort to preserve their grain elevator(s)for use as a heritage site.
Grasston Corner tries to encorporate some of these ideas of past and present as well as the communities efforts to stay viable in the region as they try to find new ways of bringing revenue into the community.
This module is currently Retired.
